With that in mind, we’ve reviewed the eco friendly cars of 2014 and present you with our top 5.
Note – We’re also included the Green Car Rating for each model features; the lower the number, the more eco-friendly the car is)
1. BMW i3 Hatchback – £30,000, Green Car Rating 22
So what do you get for your money?
On a full charge the car can travel between 80 and 125 miles, dependant on your driving style. It’s not on the slow side either, with a punchy 168bhp motor and an aluminium and carbon fibre construction.

2. Smart ForTwo ED Coupe – £15,395, Green Car Rating 24
This Smart car’s official driving range is around 84 miles and reaches a top speed of 78mph; it’s not the car for a boy racer!
However for a city car, it’s perfect; especially in London where you’ll receive a 100% Ultra Low Emission discount on the Congestion Charge. However at only 2.5 metres long, this isn’t good for carting around your luggage or the family.

3. Toyota Prius Plug In – £27,395, – Green Car Rating 27
This hybrid is great for those who love the idea of an eco-friendly car but don’t want to rely on charging them up. It can do around 15 miles on purely electric drive but its main attraction is that it can do an astonishing 108.6mpg and only emits 59g/km of CO2.

4. MINI Cooper D 3 Door – £15,000, Green Car Rating 26
With 80.7mpg and 92g/km CO2 emissions from its 1.5 litre engine, it’s actually up there with the best of the eco cars. Yet with its 114bhp it’s also a bit of a beast!
However, we’re not denying it, the main attraction is that it’s a MINI.

5. Renault Twizy Electric Car Urban – £6895, Green Car Rating 17
